Rwanda is nature’s paradise, renowned for its beautiful landscape and a rich cultural heritage. Regarded as the “Land of thousand hills”, Rwanda is blessed with a wide range of wildlife and is one of the three countries where the endangered mountain gorillas live. One third of these are in Rwanda. Gorilla trekking in Virunga Volcano National park is Rwanda’s biggest tourist attraction. Visit Lake Kivu and enjoy the idyllic resort in Kibuye and the beaches in Gisenyi; visit the national museum in Butare; track chimpanzees and colobus monkeys in Nyungwe National park, take a visit of Kigali city and pay your respects at the Kigali Genocide centre.

HE MOUNTAIN GORILLAS

Rwanda is one of the three counters where the endangered mountain gorillas live. One third of these are in Rwanda. Rwanda Gorillas are found in Parc National des Volcans which is located in the Virunga and is joined with Mgahinga National Park. When visiting the Land of a Thousand Hills, one should not miss out on the magnificent opportunity to visit Rwanda’s Parc National des Volcans (PNV) consisting of 125 Km2 of mountain forest and home to the six Virunga Volcanoes and the world famous mountain gorillas. There are currently seven gorilla families open for tracking: Susa Gorilla Family, Sabinyo Gorilla Family with 9 members; Amahoro Gorilla Family with 15 members; Group 13 Gorilla Family with 20 members; Umubano Gorilla Family with 7 members; Kwitonda Gorilla Family with 18 members and Hirwa Gorilla Family with 9 members. Hikers in the mountains will take 30 minutes to 4 hours depending on the family allocated in your group and location. This is the highlight of the Rwanda safari tours.

VIRUNGA VOLCANO NATIONAL PARK

The Volcano National park is located in North-western part of Rwanda. It lies along the Virunga Mountains with 8 ancient volcanoes shared by both Rwanda and democratic Republic of Congo. Apart from playing home to the mountain gorillas, the landscape is breathe taking and offers thrilling hiking for tourists. Trek to the Dian Fossey’s grave, an American who dedicated her life to studying and protecting the endangered species. Her grave stone has become a pilgrimage site for naturalists.

AKAGERA NATIONAL PARK

Akagera National Park derives its name from River Akagera, Located in North-eastern part of Rwanda, the park was founded in 1934. It is home to many large plain game species that include elephants, buffaloes, topi, zebra, waterbuck, roan antelope and elands. The park has re-introduced some of the large predators like leopards, hyenas, side-striped jackal and lions. The park also hosts primates like the Olive Baboon, velvets and the secretive blue monkeys, not forgetting having the largest conserved wetland in Central Africa with 500 species of birds.

NYUNGWE NATIONAL PARK

Nyungwe Forest National park lies in the Souhwest part of the country near the Burundi border. It is one of the largest remaining high altitude rainforests in Africa and home to the world’s largest troop of colobus monkeys. The park contains 13 primate species, 275 bird species, 32 amphibian and 38 reptile species. Nyungwe opened a canopy walk, the only one of its kind in East Africa. Hovering a hair-rasing 50m above the forest floor, it gives you a chance to come face to face with the monkeys in the forest. People around Nyungwe National Pak are so diverse that it is evident in some of the activities in the area like the music and dance; the food cuisine and handcrafts.

LAKE KIVU

Lake Kivu lies on the Albertine Rift, the western branch of the East African rift valley. It has three major towns of Gisenyi, Kibuye and Cyangugu and they are regular tourist destinations. Lake Kivu is hippo and bilharzia free and offers may options for tourists. Activities around the lake include swimming at the different beaches; hiking and biking along the shores; boat cruise on the lake; kayaking; wind surfing and other water sports. There are many hotels on the shores of lake Kivu and they include Lake kivu Serena Hotel, Paradise Malahide,Golden Eden Rock Hotel, Impala Amacumbi Lodge to mention but a few.

KIGALI CITY TOUR

Kigali is Rwanda’s capital city. Kigali has shrugged off the dark past and is Africa’s fast growing city. The city offers a variety of tourist activities that can spice up the Rwanda Safari. Visit the Kigali Genocide memorial centre where over 250,000 people are buried; the presidential palace museum; Inema Art Centre; Ivuka Arts centre;  Zenora wellness centre; the amazing hotels and restaurants; and if the time is perfect, attend the Rwanda Film festival.

Day1

Arrive Entebbe International Airport, you will be met by Jehovah Tours Safaris representative after immigration formalities. Transfer to your hotel in Kampala for your night stay. Later our Safari Consultant will meet you at the hotel for briefing and arrangements for the next day activities. Transit time 1hour – Meal plan Dinner only

Day2

Early breakfast at the hotel and start your road transfer to great Murchison Falls National park via the great Lwero Triangle and Masindi town for lunch and later continue your drive to the great Murchison Falls National Park. Visit top of the Falls for spectacular views, at this point the mighty Nile is forced through a seven-meter gap of rock before plunging into the 40 meters depth below which forms the great Murchison Fall, cross to the northern bank of River Nile before check in at your Lodge (8 – 10hrs Drive) – Meal plan Full Board

Overnight Paraa Safari Lodge (BLD)

Day3

Very early cup of tea and embark on morning game drive which takes to the delta where you can sport elephants, lions, cape buffalo, rothchild’s giraffes, bushbucks, bohor reed bucks, hyenas, on rare cases leopards, variety of antelope species. Continue to the lodge for lunch relaxation at the lodge. Start your early afternoon with a short travel to Nile and board your launch trip to the bottom of the falls. As you travel up the river you will have the chance to sport enormous Nile crocodiles basking on sand banks with their friendly monitor lizards, pool of hippos, variety of bird species including the rare Shoe bill stock. Take fantastic views at the base of the falls as the boat parks there and there after start your return journey as the sun is setting down which is the one of the beautiful African experience. (3hours trip)

Day 4

Comparatively early start after breakfast drive to Kibale Forest National Park for your next day chimpanzee tracking  Drive via Hoima with packed lunch from the lodge to Kyenjojo area with excellent scenic views of tea plantations arriving Fort Portal late afternoon. Overnight Primate Safari Lodge (BLD) – Driving hours 7 – 9 hours

Day 5

Early start with a short drive of one hour to Kibale National Park where you will meet the rangers at the park headquarters for Chimps viewing, report to the ranger station at the park gate for habituated chimps tracking, these delightful primates are more closely related to human. Enjoy tremendous fun watching them as they squabble, play in dense forests. This area is a home to over 13 species of primates including red colobus monkeys, grey mangabey, pottos, black faced vervet monkeys, baboons, I’hoester, butterflies and other terrestrial mammals like giant forest hog. After your packed lunch drive to Queen Elizabeth national park which takes roughly (6hrs – 8hrs Activity and drive)

Overnight Mweya Safari Lodge (BLD)

Day 6

Early start for the game viewing and this time drive to Kasenyi area where cats will be active in morning hunt, lions, hyenas, hippos, elephants, antelope species including Uganda Kobs commonly found here as their mating ground. This area is defined specifically used for challenging, enticing and mating. If you are lucky sport the bucks on spectacular fights as they defend their territories. Return to the lodge for a relaxing breakfast or lunch. Later travel to the foot of Mweya lodge for Kazinga Channel water safari. Along this channel many bird species are usually seen including the rare Shoe bill stork. Travel back to Mweya Safari Lodge for dinner and night stay (3Hrs trip) – Meal plan Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Day 7

Early start after breakfast at the hotel for your drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, 9hrs drive. Leave Queen Elizabeth National Park via Ishasha sector which is the Southern sector of Queen Elizabeth national Park, as you drive in this area try to sport famed Ishasha tree climbing lions, if you are lucky you may see them lazing on fig tree branches on a hot sunny day. Picnic lunch will be taken and you will arrive late evening.

Day 8

Wake up early after your hearty breakfast to energize you for real Africa jungle trekking, gate travel a short distance to the ranger station and sort out with porters before you start you gorilla tracking, the rugged terrain makes hiking in search of mountain gorillas exciting and adventurous. A reasonable degree of fitness is required and the time spent tracking usually depends on the location of gorillas. It is an extraordinary feeling, listening to them grumble to each other with a silverback taking command of the family and you will be allowed to stay with these amazing creatures for one hour. Packed lunch will be taken and return to the camp for night stay (1 – 6Hours activity) – Meal plan Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 9

Drive to Kabale town cross via Katuna border to Park de Volcano with packed lunch, arrive at the Kinigi Guest house for dinner and night stay

Day 10

Early breakfast and travel a short distance to the ranger station and sort out with porters before you start you gorilla tracking, the rugged terrain makes hiking in search of mountain gorillas exciting and adventurous. Overnight Kinigi Guest House (BLD)

Day 11

Depart after breakfast drive back to Kampala and lunch will be at Agip Motel in Mbarara town or White Horse Inn Kabale tow. This area is commonly referred to as “Little Switzerland of Africa” mountainous and good weather, Your drive will have stop over at Equator crossing and Mpambire drum markers, watch this traditional method of making drums passed down for generation. If wished take with you a cheap African drum from here arriving Kampala before dark (7-9Hrs drive)

Day 12

After breakfast at the hotel, go shopping and you will transfer to Entebbe International Airport for your departure flight (B)
